FESTIVALS

• Western Minnesota Steam Threshers Reunion: 6 a.m. to 11 p.m., Rollag. Gates open daily at 6 a.m.; ladies' activities begin at 9 a.m. on Main Street. Parades at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.; steam hammer demonstrations at 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 5:30 p.m.; style show at 3 p.m. Live music throughout the show grounds during the day and into the evening. • Ogema Days: A scavenger hunt and potluck dinner will both start at 11 a.m. in Ogema. Proceeds from the festival will benefit the Ogema Fire Department, Pheasants Forever and the Community Club.

MISCELLANEOUS

• Civilian Conservation Corps movie: 2 p.m., Tamarac National Wildlife Refuge, rural Detroit Lakes. Roosevelt's civilian conservation corps put more than three million young men in the nation's parks, forests, and farms. This film interweaves rich archival imagery with the personal accounts of CCC veterans to tell the story of the boldest New Deal experiments.

LITERARY EVENTS

• "The Five Freedoms of the First Amendment": 5 p.m., Park Rapids Area Library. Social justice activist Audrey Thayer, an enrolled member of the White Earth Reservation, will speak. Hosted by the Park Rapids League of Women Voters (PRLWV). The public is invited to attend.

MUSIC

Friday, Sept. 10

DANCE

• Friendly Squares Square Dance: 7:30 to 10 p.m., Century School, Park Rapids. Workshop at 7:30 p.m., followed by square dancing from 8 to 10 p.m. The caller will be Abe Maier and Donna Stone will cue round dancing between tips. Friendly Squares members will furnish a potluck dinner following the dance. All square dancers and spectators are welcome.

Saturday, Sept. 11

RECREATION

• Dick Beardsley Run: 8:30 a.m., DL Pavilion, Detroit Lakes. The 15th Annual Dick Beardsley Run includes a half marathon, two-person relay, 5K walk/run and Kids' 1K run, with hometown hero Beardsley and guest running legend Kathrine Switzer. FESTIVALS

• First City Ethnic Arts Festival: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Hungry Bear Banquet and Conference Center, 2300 24th St. NW, Bemidji. The event is free and open to the public. Hosted by Gallery North Art Gallery and the Northern Artists Association, the event will offer a little bit of fun for young and old. MUSIC
