Master gardener and environmentalist Sally Hausken, whose back yard is the Sucker Creek Preserve, will present a program on wildflowers and other plants that grow naturally in the woods, prairies and wetlands at Detroit Lakes Library Thursday, June 26, at 2 p.m. as a part of the 2008 Summer Reading Program, "Look What's Cookin' at your library."

Kids may also bring their favorite edible flower recipes to the library on this event day. Different recipe themes will be requested each week and children will be able to take home a cookbook of the compilation at the end of the summer.

This program is free and a part of "Look What's Cookin' at your Library," the 2008 Minnesota Summer Reading Program, a cooking themed reading program designed to encourage children to read over the summer. Studies show that students who don't read over the summer are less prepared for school success in the fall. The summer reading program at Detroit Lakes Library makes summer reading more fun with special programs, good books and reading incentives.

Detroit Lakes Library invites all elementary aged children and their families to a summer of fun at their library. Summer reading program activities at Detroit Lakes Library are sponsored in part by Becker County Friends of the Library.
