'Footloose: The Musical'
In the 1980s, Kevin Bacon stepped onto the big screen in a pair of worn out jeans and a t-shirt and danced his way into the hearts of women and teenage girls in a movie called "Footloose." Now, "Footloose the Musical" is back for a 10th Anniversary Tour stop at the Fargodome for one performance only, tonight at 7:30 p.m. Tickets, priced from $26.50 to $46.50, went on sale this week at the Fargodome Box Office, all Ticketmaster outlets including Discontent, Cash Wise and NDSU Memorial Union, online at www.ticketmaster.com, or by phone at 800-745-3000. Health, Leisure Expo
Lake Park Audubon Community Ed sponsors the Lakes Area Health and Leisure Expo is from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Lake Park-Audubon Elementary gym. There will be area vendors, product displays, health screenings, shopping, food and fun.
Everyone is invited to this year's Spring Stag sponsored by the DLMGA. The event is at the Detroit Country Club at 1 p.m., shot-gun start. Cost per player is $20; carts are extra. Entry fee covers 18 holes and dinner. Call DCC at 847-5790 to make your tee-time for your group. This event will be held rain or shine, provided the course is open.
Want to research your family history? Aren't sure where to start? Come to Beginning Genealogy from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in the DL Library. Explore ways to find information beyond births, deaths and marriages. Discover genealogical databases found on the Library's Web site as well as other online sources of information using a laptop computer. The class is free, but space is limited. '25 Years of Heroes'
The United Way of Becker County will celebrate its 25th anniversary with a special "25 Years of Heroes" gala at the Speak Easy restaurant in Detroit Lakes. The festivities will begin with a 5 p.m. social hour featuring "heavy" hors d'ouevres and a cash bar. The highlight of the evening, however, will be the United Way's annual "Celebration of Heroes" awards ceremony. Tickets for the evening celebration are $20 apiece, and can be purchased at the United Way offices, located inside the Rural Minnesota Concentrated Employment Program (CEP) office building at 803 Roosevelt Ave., or by calling executive director Luann Porter at 218-846-7400.
Red River Valley
Veterans Concert Band
The Red River Valley Veterans Concert Band returns to Perham for a concert on Thursday, April 30 at the ITOW Veterans Museum. The concert, which is free and open to the public, is again being sponsored by the Perham Lions. The band will perform in the main gallery of the ITOW Veterans Museum, starting at 8:15 p.m. (immediately following a performance at the local nursing home).
The Swedish Cultural Heritage Society of the Red River Valley celebrates Valborg Night at 6 p.m. in St. John's Lutheran Church, Arthur, N.D. This annual celebration begins with a potluck dinner at the church. Following will be the traditional bonfire, weather permitting. Bring the whole family.
DLMS Band Concert
The Detroit Lakes Middle School bands (sixth, seventh and eighth grades) present their spring band concert at 7:30 p.m. in the middle school auditorium. There is no admission charge.

The Minnesota State Community & Technical College Speaker Series continues with a 10 a.m. presentation by Mike Marcil on "Safe Ways to Fail," in the M-State Conference Center (Room C103). The Half Steps
The Half Steps a cappella group will perform at the Ulen-Hitterdal School in Ulen as part of its Top Hat Theatre series on Saturday, May 2 at 7:30 p.m. The Half Steps have been entertaining audiences all over central Minnesota with an eclectic mix of tunes for more than 12 years. With a set list that runs the gamut from barbershop to doo wop to Elvis and Dean Martin and back, it's the odd audience member who can't find something to like in a Half Steps show. Tickets are $15 for adults, $10 for students, and can be purchased at the school office or reserved at 218-596-8853.
Billy Joel/Elton John
Elton John and Billy Joel, the most successful and longest-running concert pairing in pop history, will reunite to bring their Face 2 Face tour to the Fargodome on Saturday, May 2 at 7:30 p.m. (doors open at 6 p.m.). Detroit Lakes' Historic Holmes Theatre welcomes Big Top Chautauqua's "Old Minnesota: Song of the North Star" to the stage for a 7:30 p.m. show. This show was created specifically for the Minnesota Sesqui-centennial in 2008, and portrays in story, song and large-screen vintage visuals the lives, ambitions and accomplishments of Minnesota's Native inhabitants, European settlers and their descendants. Mixed Blood Theatre

M-State student recital
Minnesota State Community and Technical College (M-State)-xFergus Falls sophomore music student, Jim Stenger will present a recital on Tuesday, May 5, at 7:30 p.m. in the Waage Theater. Susan Sanner is the accompanist. Jim is the son of Mark and Joan Stenger of Vergas, Minnesota and is a 2006 graduate of Perham High School. The public is invited to attend and admission is free.
