White Earth celebrates Earth Day
The White Earth Nation is making plans to celebrate Mother Earth on Earth Day, Tuesday, April 22 at the Mississippi Headwaters at Itasca State Park.
One of the reasons for this event is due to the Enbridge Sandpiper pipeline that is being proposed to run through some of the most environmentally fragile areas of the state.
The impact of the pipeline could have a devastating impact to our lakes, rivers, streams, forests, and wild rice beds, etc.
The celebration will begin with an Honor Song and Blessing at 11 a.m. at the Headwaters. Reservation school children are currently making signs showing their support for clean water, and their concerns for the proposed Enbridge Sandpiper pipeline.
After the event, a picnic lunch will be provided and everyone will receive a sapling tree to bring home and plant.
