White Earth man accused of fighting with baseball bat, brandishing gun

Derek Todd Blakely, 21, of White Earth appeared In Hubbard County District Court March 24 on three counts of first degree burglary and second degree assault.

He is charged in connection with a second incident that occurred Nov. 25, 2007 at a residence in Park Rapids. Four individuals have been charged in one of them.

Now Blakely is charged in the other. According to the complaint, a disturbance was reported at a residence where six individuals, including a juvenile, had broken in by smashing a window and front door with baseball bats, wooden clubs and liquor bottles.

Blakely reportedly had a rifle inside the residence after the break-in. A fight ensued and Blakely attempted to hit one of the individuals with a bat and later was among several individuals who hit another with the bats they were carrying.

Also charged in this incident were Michael Benjamin Goodman, 20, of Ponsford, David Wayne Eischens Jr., 26, of 618 Woodland Ave., Park Rapids and Eric Thomas Eischens, 21, (address unknown).

Each burglary charge carries a maximum of 20 years in jail and/or a $35,000 fine. The charge of second degree assault with a dangerous weapon carries a maximum of seven years and/or a $14,000 fine.

He appeared before District Judge Robert Tiffany.
