White Earth man sentenced for felony domestic assault
A White Earth man was sentenced last week in Becker County District Court to five years' probation on a charge of felony domestic assault.
Matthew Joel Larson, 26, of 39432 County Rd. 34 East, White Earth, was charged with one felony count of domestic assault and one felony count of fifth degree assault in connection with a Jan. 13, 2008 incident in which White Earth tribal police were called to his residence to intervene in an altercation.
Larson allegedly got into an argument with a relative and threw a coffee pot at her, causing another man at the residence to intervene. Larson then tried to strike the man and yelled at him to "take it outside." When Larson followed through and went outside, the man locked the door and called police. Larson had previously been convicted on charges of fourth and fifth degree assault and domestic assault by strangulation.
At his sentencing on Wednesday, Jan. 28, the second charge of felony fifth degree assault was dismissed. Larson was sentenced to 24 months in prison, stayed on conditions including five years of supervised probation and payment of $187 in court fines and fees as well as completion of court-ordered treatment. He was also given credit for time served in jail since Jan. 13, 2008.
