At about 1 a.m. on Saturday. White Earth Reservation dispatchers reported that a stabbing victim was being dropped off at the dispatch office in the village of White Earth.

Law enforcement officers went to the dispatch office, where they found an injured man being dropped off by passenger car. He said he had been stabbed by Thompson during a fight at the Old Mission Grounds off County Road 133.

The 23-year-old man, identified as Jeffrey James Bellcourt, suffered two stab wounds in the lower back, one in the buttocks area, a small one in the stomach area and a large cut on his left ear. He was taken to the hospital by ambulance. He is believed to have been treated and released, and was not listed as a patient Thursday at St. Mary's Innovis Health in Detroit Lakes.

When questioned, Thompson allegedly admitted stabbing the man with a six-inch folding knife with a 2 ½-inch blade.

He appeared Monday before District Judge Peter Irvine, who ordered him held at the Moorhead Detention Center pending a June 24 review hearing.

The state is seeking to certify him as an adult for prosecution, and Irvine ordered an adult certification study and set a contested certification hearing for 3 p.m. July 7.
