White Earth youth sentenced for domestic assault
Nicholas Edward Durant, 18, of 25197 Bear Clan Drive, White Earth has been sentenced for felony third-degree assault, substantial bodily harm.
A felony charge of domestic assault by strangulation was dropped in a plea agreement.
According to court records:
On Sept. 11, a tribal police officer was called to Durant's residence and found the victim holding a towel to his face, bloody from cuts to the head. He suffered a broken nose and other injuries, including being choked, after he locked Durant out of the house following an argument. Durant was angry and assaulted him when he got inside, because the victim had locked him outside and had pretended to be sleeping on a couch.
On Dec. 19 Becker County District Judge Peter Irvine stayed imposition of sentence for five years and placed him on supervised probation for five years. He was sentenced to jail time served and released.
He was fined $1,000 plus court fees, and was ordered to complete a domestic abuse program.
