Willie Nelson at Shooting Star on Friday
Country music legend Willie Nelson is performing live on stage at Shooting Star Casino in Mahnomen this Friday, May 17, at 8 p.m. Tickets are sold out.
Singer, songwriter, actor, outlaw and philanthropist Willie Nelson has been present in country music for the past five decades.
Nelson has written over 2,500 songs and released nearly 300 albums.
Critically acclaimed albums include “Shotgun Willie,” which is considered to be one of the greatest albums of all time, in addition to “Red Headed Stranger” and “Stardust.”
Nelson’s first No. 1 hit, “Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain,” also provided his first Grammy win for Best Country Vocal Performance in 1975.
His second Grammy Award came soon thereafter for his cover of Hoagy Carmichael and Stuart Gorrell’s “Georgia on My Mind.”
In 1978, Nelson’s collaboration with Waylon Jennings on “Mammas Don’t Let Your Babies Grow Up To Be Cowboys” scored the pair a Grammy Award for Best Country Vocal Performance by a Duo or Group.
Other Grammy Award-winning songs won by Willie Nelson include “Always on my Mind” and “On the Road Again.”
More recently, Willie Nelson released the albums “Let’s Face the Music and Dance” and “Heroes,” featuring artists such as Merle Haggard, Snoop Dog, Kris Kristofferson and Sheryl Crow.
In addition to his numerous Grammy Awards and chart-topping albums, Nelson was honored by the Country Music Association with its Lifetime Achievement Award in 2012.
