Detroit Lakes native Willis L. Olson, 88, of Glyndon, Minn., died Tuesday, March 10, 2009, at St. Mary's Innovis Health Center in Detroit Lakes.
Willis "Willie" Olson was born to Nels and Hannah (Hanson) Olson on Jan. 17, 1921, in Shell Lake Township, Detroit Lakes. He grew up and attended school near Shell Lake. On June 14, 1945, he married Renilda Eitel in Sebeka, Minn. Together they lived in Detroit Lakes for a short time before moving to Glyndon in 1951. They remained in Glyndon until recently moving to Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes.
Willie enjoyed being outdoors, especially spending time in the woods and hunting. He will be dearly missed by those who knew him and will be remembered for his sharp wit and sense of humor.
Surviving Willie are his wife, Renilda, currently at Emmanuel Nursing Home, Detroit Lakes; sons, Wayne D. (Corene) Olson of Pelican Rapids and Wendell W. Olson of rural Hawley; daughter, Renae C. Olson of Barnesville; five grandchildren; four great grandchildren; sisters, Lillian Carlson, Harriet Davis and Elaine Skinner; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents; brothers, Ernest and Glen Olson; and sisters, Arlet Olson and Doris Tyree.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 3 p.m. Saturday, March 14, followed by the funeral at 3 p.m., all in the Emmanuel Nursing Home Chapel, Detroit Lake.
