Wind chill advisory issued for Detroit Lakes area
A wind chill advisory remains in effect until noon today for all of eastern North Dakota and parts of northwest and west-central Minnesota.
Wind speeds in those areas are strong enough to produce dangerously cold wind chill values of 25 below to 35 below, the National Weather Service said.
Detroit Lakes' temperature just before 8 a.m. was 4 below, with a wind chill of 23 below.
Wind chill values as low as 25 below are expected tonight, with wind chills of 78 below and 25 below possible again Thursday and Thursday night, respectively, the weather service said.
High temperatures are predicted to stay in the single digits through at least Tuesday, with a high of 1 forecast for Saturday.
The weather service advised those venturing outdoors to dress appropriately.
