Wind storm damages apartment complexes in southwest Fargo

FARGO -- Winds in excess of 60 mph tore through much of North Dakota and western Minnesota late Friday and early Saturday.

The weather hit part of southwest Fargo especially hard, with wind tearing away parts of roofs and garages on some large apartment complexes in the Amber Valley Parkway area south of Interstate 94 between 45th Street South and Veterans Boulevard.

This morning, power was restored to 2,080 West Fargo-area customers of Cass County Electric after a downed tree knocked out electricity, said Trudy Wanner, manager of marketing and communication for the company. She asked customers to call (701) 356-4499 or (888) 277-4424 to report any outages.

Some campers were overturned by winds near Lake Sakakawea State Park in central North Dakota and winds were clocked at 81 mph in Zeeland in south-central North Dakota, according to the National Weather Service. Winds in the Fargo-Moorhead area were clocked at just over 61 mph in some spots.
