Winners advance to multi-region

DETROIT LAKES - The Lakes Country Service Cooperative/Forum Communications/Timberwolves Spelling Bee was March 3 in the Fergus Falls Middle School.

The day began with a written round and one oral round. Students with the highest scores then continued in a traditional oral spelling bee. Cole Remmen, Detroit Lakes, was champion, with Mariah Neuhauser, also of Detroit Lakes, taking second. Both advance to the multi-region state spelling bee on March 11 in St. Cloud.

Remmen and Neuhauser are both eighth grades at Detroit Lakes Middle School.

The winner of the multi-region bee will compete in the National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C.
