The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for Monday night into Tuesday afternoon for the southern half of the Red River Valley.

Snow totals of at least 3 inches are expected in most places, with as much as 6 inches possible in some spots.

The heaviest snow is expected to fall along and south of a line from New Rockford, N.D., to Park Rapids, Minn.

There will be more snow than wind with the system, according to Geoff Grochocinski, a meteorologist with the Weather Service in Grand Forks.

Winds will be generally light, 10-15 mph, when snow begins to fall this evening but they will pick up to 20-25 mph during the day Tuesday, according to Grochocinski, who said "a little blowing and drifting" is likely.

With high temperatures today and Tuesday expected to be above zero, the wind chill factor should not be a great concern, said Grochocinski.
