Woman in court for check forgery
A Lengby woman will make her first appearance Sept. 11 in Becker County District Court on a felony charge of check forgery.
Maggie Lynn Oppegard, 22, of 1715 300th Ave., Lengby, Minn., is accused of writing two forged checks and using them to purchase items at the On-the-Go convenience store in Callaway on March 19.
One check was written for $135, the other for $280, and both were drawn on a Wells Fargo bank account registered in the name of Oscar Oppegard. The checks were later discovered to have been written on an account that had been closed since 2008.
The defendant was identified as the person who allegedly passed the checks because of surveillance video from the store on the date and time specified, as well as the fact that a tribal identification number written on one of the checks was found to be registered in her name.
