Woman in court for taking ‘friend’s’ vehicle
A Mahnomen woman appeared Monday in Becker County District Court on a felony theft charge.
Eleanor Mary Sargent, 46, of 2086 College Road, Mahnomen, is also facing a gross misdemeanor count of the same charge in connection with a March 11 incident in Detroit Lakes.
According to court records, Sargent allegedly took a gray Ford Explorer belonging to someone she called “a friend,” and used it to drive to Walmart, without having the owner’s permission.
When the vehicle was spotted heading west on Highway 10 and stopped by local law enforcement, numerous items were also found inside the vehicle that had allegedly been stolen from the owner’s residence. The stolen items had an estimated value of $1,000.
Sargent is currently in custody at the Becker County Jail awaiting her next court appearance. Her bail was set at $15,000 with conditions, or $30,000 without conditions.
