Woman seriously hurt after being struck by boat on Cotton Lake
A rural Detroit Lakes woman was seriously injured Friday afternoon while boating on Cotton Lake. She fell out of the boat, which then circled around and struck her.
Doris Gravelle, 51, was a passenger in a 14-foot Lund with a 15 horsepower motor that was being operated by Joseph Gravelle, 54.
Both were ejected from the boat, which was pulling two people on inner tubes.
Doris Gravelle suffered "substantial injuries when the boat began to circle and struck her," according to a news release from the Becker County Sheriff's Office. She was taken to Essentia St. Mary's hospital in Detroit Lakes and later transferred to a Fargo hospital.
Deputies and medical personnel responded to the accident shortly after 5 p.m. on Friday.
This is the third weekend in a row that the sheriff's department has had to assist people that fell out of their boats, and Sheriff Tim Gordon requests that boaters remember to wear life jackets out on the lakes.
