Women's expo set for Saturday
With all of its 50-plus booths now sold out, the inaugural Lakes Lifestyle Expo for Women is already shaping up to be a success, according to event organizer Beth Pridday.
"Planning the event has been fun... it's been going well," she said earlier this week. "We've had a really good response from the community... there's been a lot of interest."
Set to take place this Saturday, Sept. 30, at the Detroit Lakes Holiday Inn, the event will feature live demonstrations, food and wine tasting, even shopping opportunities for those who would like to get a little holiday shopping in early.
Though the event's main attraction, keynote speaker Karen Burgum, doesn't take the stage until 3 p.m., there will be plenty to see and do until then, Pridday noted.
"We will have demonstrations throughout the day, and over 50 (exhibitor) booths," she said.
Some of the demonstrations will include facial advice and make-up tips from local Mary Kay consultants, as well as cooking and scrapbooking.
Exhibitors will include Tastefully Simple, Cookie Lee Jewelry, Creative Consumables, Curves for Women, Eagle Lake Resort and Spa, Shaklee, Watkins, Pet Care Systems, Convent on Reeves and many, many more.
And of course, there will be door prize drawings, for everything from gourmet dinners prepared by a personal chef to shopping sprees and spa packages.
Capping off the day's activities will be the 3 p.m. presentation by Karen Burgum, known as the "godmother of downtown Fargo" for her work in establishing Hotel Donaldson in Fargo. A retired software executive, Burgum bought a building in downtown Fargo and turned it into an energetic, locally relevant hotel that reopened in August 2003.
Tickets are $5 in advance or $8 at the door at Norby's Department Store, Solutions LLC and Bliss - A Bath & Body Shoppe, both located in the Washington Square Mall.
