Women’s retreat to be held in DL
Ladies of the lakes area, are you ready for a little “me time” to kick off the spring season?
Then come join staff and volunteers from Sanford Health and Ecumen-Detroit Lakes for their first ever “Life Happens Women’s Retreat” on Thursday, April 18 at the Sanford Health Clinic in Detroit Lakes.
The two local health organizations are joining forces to launch a new local event that organizer Sandy Lia calls a “health, wellness and beauty experience — with food and wine.”
“It will be a chance for women to have a fun night out, see our facility, enjoy some appetizers and have some fun,” said Breanna Adams, director of clinic operations for Sanford Health-Detroit Lakes.
Planning for the retreat began last August, Lia said, with input from not only herself and Adams, but also Sanford’s Gail Damlo and Ecumen’s Erin Swyter and Janet Green.
“Our hope was to create a special event that was uniquely designed for women,” Lia added.
The festivities will begin with a special zumba dance presentation in the Sanford Health parking lot, featuring local zumba dancers and music from Wave 104 FM.
“That should get everyone pumped up,” Lia said.
The first 300 people who walk through the clinic doors that evening will also receive a “goodie bag” with a variety of products provided by area vendors that were specially selected for this event.
There will be a variety of appetizers and beverages served, along with a selection of wines from Lakes Liquor that will be available for tasting.
In addition, there will be 30 different booths set up for people to stroll and shop, with all of them geared toward women, and vendors “who know their products,” Lia said.
Throughout the evening a series of “short and sweet” speakers will be talking about topics ranging from breast cancer awareness to reducing stress, good nutrition habits and best skin care practices.
“There will be speakers every 10 to 15 minutes, starting at 6 p.m.,” Lia added. “We wanted to provide education about ‘real life’ things that women are concerned about.”
After each speaker has finished their presentation, there will be a door prize drawing.
The evening will conclude with a presentation by keynote speaker Renee Rongen — the award winning entrepreneur, motivational speaker, author, and mother who has inspired thousands of people to “Live Life From the Inside Out.”
“She’s just so upbeat!” exclaimed Lia, who has been in contact with Rongen several times over the past few months. “I think people will be laughing, and possibly crying — she’s very moving and powerful.”
Rongen will also be available to sign copies of her books after the presentation, and will have some of them on hand for purchase at a discounted price, Lia added.
“This is a great thing for the women of Detroit Lakes,” she said. “They will leave this event feeling very good about themselves.”
There is no cost to attend the women’s retreat, which is being sponsored by Sanford Health and Ecumen-Detroit Lakes. For more information, please call 218-846-2000.
