Detroit Lakes gave up 18 points forfeiting at 145, 182 and 195 to compound the Laker woes.

Dylan Fudge (106), Ben Nelson (113), Chase Curtis (120) and Sam Pirrotta (126) got Perham out to a 24-0 lead with wins by fall.

Logan Twigg got the Lakers on the scoreboard pinning Tyler Fudge late in the third period at 5:15.

Dylan Perrine and Bryan Swiers spent six minutes locked up on the mat in a 2-0 for the Perham sophomore and a 27-6 Perham advantage.

The Lakers got two consecutive wins from No. 4-2A Parker Jackson and Jarett Nosal to close within 19 points down 33-14.

Jackson won by technical fall over Austen Schultz 21-4. Nosal defeated Patrick Glynn in the closest match of the night 6-5.

Kirby Siewert defeated Perham’s Trent Jahnke 4-2 at 220 and Perham’s Jesse Bucholz nearly scored an upset of No. 4AA heavyweight James Huwe to close out the match.

Bucholz had Huwe on his back near the end of the first period and led 5-0 going into the second before Huwe turned the tables and pinned Bucholz for the 50-23 final.

The Lakers had a pair of champions in the Thief River Falls Invite Saturday, with Jackson and Huwe claiming weight titles.

Jackson (23-2) downed Greenbush/Middle River-Badger’s Brandon Weege by a 14-4 major decision in the title bout of the 152-pound class.

Jackson recorded two falls on his way to the championship match.

Huwe won his heavyweight championship by pin, when he stuck Fargo Davies’ Hunter Swensen, who was North Dakota’s state runner-up last year.

Huwe (19-4) won a narrow 3-2 decision over No. 7 ranked Kris Kucera of Thief River Falls in the quarterfinals.

Senior Kirby Siewert was the 220-pound runner-up after losing to Blackduck’s Tanner Templin 2-1 in the title bout.

Other placewinners for DL included senior Jarett Nosal taking third at 160 and Rayne Jacobson taking sixth in the 170 division.

The Lakers will compete in the Mid-State/Heart O’Lakes Conference meet in Staples-Motley Saturday.
