Young Life triathlon
With options for an Olympic-length course or a "sprint" course, the Young Life Triathlon is Aug. 18.
There's also a 5K "fun run" and a 1K "kiddie run" the night before in City Park. Entry fees are $20 for 5K and $10 for the kiddie run.
The triathlon course starts with a swim through Detroit Lake, then a bike ride, followed by a run.
The Olympic-length Long Course is a 1½K swim, 40K bike ride and 10K run. The Sprint Course is a 500-meter swim, 20K bike ride and 5K run. Entry fees are $60 for individual and $85 for relay.
The triathlons begin at 8 a.m. Saturday morning.
Awards will given to the first three places for males and females in each age group for each race. Other awards will be given to the overall male and female winners, and awards will be given to the top teams in both the Olympic and Sprint distances.
After the race, there will be family activities. A noon lunch is free to all racers and can be pur-chased by non-racers.
The Young Life Triath-lon is one of the biggest fundraisers for Lakes Area Young Life, a youth ministry that strives to establish supportive relationships between leaders and kids, while sharing the message of Jesus Christ and helping the kids grow into happy, confident, responsible adults.
