"Tom'z Top Team" is highly-coveted by staff members from each of the ten Zorbaz locations and is awarded to the location that does the best job encompassing, embracing and displaying the essence of Zorbaz.

This is the eleventh year Zorbaz has been giving the award, and the fourth time the Detroit Lakes location has won.

"Tom'z Top Team began eleven years ago to establish and encourage a friendly operational competition among all Zorbaz," said Tom Hanson, Zorbaz founder. "The award's goal is to continually improve the guest experience throughout the company."

Each location is evaluated throughout the summer and scored based on their performance in dozens of categories. It all boils down to evaluating each store's execution and overall guest experience.

"The main differentiator this year was the Detroit Lakes staff's ability to run tremendous ticket times, during even the busiest weekends, without any sacrifice in presentation and quality," said Hanson.

Tate Jansen, operating partner of the D.L. location, says the staff works extremely hard for the recognition and award.

D.L. Zorbaz employs over 106 staff members, about 50 of which work there year-round.

"Winning Tom'z Top Team is a great accomplishment. It is the epitome of a job well done," said Jansen. "Every day the staff focuses on the task at hand and the minor details because we know that we are constantly being evaluated. Like any team, this is something that we worked for all year."

Within the Detroit Lakes location, employees Jamie Maloney and Michael "Zpike" Quam each won a $500 scholarship. Maloney attends Bemidji State University and Quam attends Minnesota Center for Glass Arts.

"The Zcholarship Award is a big 'thank you' to individuals who have gone the extra step to make the operation run better," said Jansen. "The only requirement is that person is going on to further education beyond high school and will be returning to Zorbaz the following summer. We had over 20 eligible candidates, which made this decision an extremely difficult one."
