February 13

'Sweetening the Heart'

The DL Christian Women's Club hosts Sweetening the Heart from noon to 1:30 p.m. in Holiday Inn, DL. Cost is $8. Reservations should be made by Feb. 11 to Norma at 846-1977 or Ruth at 847-5507.


February 14

Genealogical Society

The Heart O'Lakes Genealogical Society will be holding its postponed Christmas party at 6:30 p.m. in the Becker County Museum. There will be a short business meeting followed by a research & social hour. The meeting is open to the public and we welcome anyone interested in researching their family history is invited to attend.

Emmanuel hug contest

Emmanuel Community hosts a hug contest and Valentine sale in the nursing home form 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

ULTRA Snowmobile Club

An ULTRA Snowmobile board and general membership meeting is at 7 p.m. in the Speak Easy. The General Membership meeting is two weeks early to prepare for the Vintage Rally.

Community band rehearsal

The Lakes Area Community Concert Band rehearses from 7-8:30 p.m. in the Detroit Lakes Senior High band room. Use the southwest doors. Doors open by 6:30 p.m. Gene Gaffney will direct. Anyone interested in playing with the band is welcome. Openings in all sections, especially percussion. Square dance

Country Twirlers Square Dance is at 7:30 p.m. in the Lake Park High School. Caller is Larry Johansen.

Poitin concert

The traditional wild Irish band Poitin performs at Zorbaz by the Lake in Detroit Lakes from 8 p.m. to midnight. Guaranteed to jump-start your system with driving rhythms, ripping instrumental solos and heartbreaking vocals, Poitin is a seven-piece Fargo-based traditional Irish band. Live at the Lodge

Minneapolis-based jazz vocalist Connie Evingson will be making a return engagement at the Lodge on Lake Detroit's "Live at the Lodge" concert series this evening from 7-10 p.m. She will be performing with "guitar wizard" Tim Sparks of Frazee, saxophone player David Karr and bass player Bill Law. Freeze Your Buns Run

Rescheduled from Feb. 9. The 15th annual Freeze Your Buns 5K Run/Walk starts at 9 a.m. in front of the Detroit Lakes Community & Cultural Center. The first 100 people registered receive a limited edition Freeze Your Buns beanie. The cost is $10 before Feb. 7 and $12 after.

Polar Plunge

Rescheduled from Feb. 9. Take the Polar Plunge to support the Boys and Girls Club of Detroit Lakes on Saturday, Feb. 9. Registration begins at 11 a.m. at the Lakeside Tavern. Old Timers Pond Hockey

Polar Fest Fireworks

Rescheduled from Feb. 9. Polar Fest's first-ever community fireworks display gets underway at 7 p.m. on the city beach. Bundle up and come enjoy the fun!

Numb Your Buns

Vintage snowmobile rally

The DL Vintage Snowmobile Rally/Swap Meet begins with registration from 9 to 11 a.m. at the DL City Beach. Snow or no snow, it's a go. There will be over $2,000 in prizes and trophies will be awarded. For more info, call Ryan at 849-0415.

Youth fishing derby

Cormorant Lakes Sportman's Club and The Cormorant Pub sponsor a youth fishing derby is from 9:30 a.m. to noon on Leif Lake, north of the Landing Cupper Club. It is free, and for kids age 15 and under. Tackle and bait will be provided. There will be prizes.

Amateur Radio Club

The Detroit Lakes Amateur Radio Club meets at 9 a.m. in Holiday Inn. Anyone interested in amateur radio hobby is welcome.

Pool, dart fund-raiser

The Sandbar sponsors a fundraiser for the Humane Society of the Lakes with a pool and dart tournament, including food, music and a silent auction. Registration is from 10 a.m. to noon for the pool tournament ($10 entry fee), noon to 2 p.m. for the dart tournament. The silent auction is from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., and food will be served from 4 to 7 p.m. Cost for food is $5. The band "The Great Outdoors" takes the stage at 8.

Rising Sun Dancers

Mind Trap for teens

Holmes Cabaret Night

One of Detroit Lakes' newest bands, Vincent & The Van-Goes, will be making their local debut at the Historic Holmes Theatre's Cabaret Night series, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. in the Holmes Ballroom. Viking Bookmobile

Viking Library System's bookmobile stops at Dent School from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m., Dent Bank from 11 to 11:30, Richville Post Office from 11:45 to noon, and Vergas Municipal Building from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 7.

Lego at the Library

Do you know a kid who likes LEGOs? DL Library hosts a LEGOs at the Library event at 4 p.m. Participants can bring their own blocks or use the materials provided by the Library.
