Whiskey Creek Film Festival Sept. 14-20
The model established for the Whiskey Creek Film Festival seven years ago has proven to be a success: show the best available current release movies not available at most theaters in the region and people will come.
Always held the second full weekend in September, this year's festival opens Sept. 14 at the Cozy Theatre in Wadena and runs through Sept. 20.
Seven feature films plus a number of short films created by Minnesota filmmakers make the Festival a project many in the region anticipate.
Included in the mix is a free family movie to be screened Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
The hectic pace of summer is past, the kids have returned to school, and now there is time to enjoy great movie art that doesn't usually come to rural Minnesota.
The schedule and descriptions of the movies can be found at whiskeycreekfilmfestival.org.
Tickets are available at the Cozy Theatre box office, the Harvest Thyme Bistro, and the New York Mills Cultural Center.
The price of a festival pass for all six films is $30. That price saves the festivalgoer $2 off the price of each individual ticket.
The Harvest Thyme Bistro in Wadena is offering a "Buy One-Get One" deal for the festival on Friday and Saturday, and they will be open late both nights for the enjoyment of movie lovers.
The Whiskey Creek Film Festival is made possible by a grant from the Five Wings Arts Council with funding appropriated by the Minnesota State Legislature and from the Arts and Culture legacy amendment approved by a vote of the citizens of the State of Minnesota in November, 2008, by the Wadena Convention and Visitor's Bureau, and by many businesses in the region.
