Art showcase, fundraiser for Humane Society set
“Pubs and Places at the Lakes,” an art opening and fundraiser for the Humane Society of the Lakes, is set for this Friday, July 18 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Speak Easy in Detroit Lakes.
This is the fifth series in a collection of watercolors by artist Kim Jore, featuring the pubs of Fargo-Moorhead and the lakes area.
The first year’s series was Pubs On Broadway, second year was Pubs Off Broadway, third was Pubs Revisited, fourth was Pubs at the Lakes and this year’s set is Pubs and Places at the Lakes.
Pubs and Places at the Lakes is a collection of watercolors of the pubs in the Detroit Lakes area.
It includes Lakeside Tavern, Bleachers, The Landing, Spanky’s, Maple Beach Resort, Swany’s, Curley’s, Sunlite Bar and Grill, The Brick, Speak Easy, Pelican Zorbaz and The Bridge.
The original paintings are for sale and prints are available too. Half of all print sales go to the Humane Society. The first 4 collections will be available also.
“I have always loved painting old buildings and capturing the places and people in their surroundings,” Jore says.
“The old buildings and people are inspiring. This year’s collection was a challenge to travel to the Minnesota lakes and visit each pub and discover it’s uniqueness.
“I feel that this collection captures the essence of these pubs and I am excited to hear people’s stories of these places.”
There will be live music by Eden Parker, as well as food and beverages.
Though this is a one-day event, donations will be accepted through Labor Day. You can order prints through Jore’s website, riverzen.com or by e-mail at email@example.com.
