Kids, teens can win $1,000 for reading

Encouraging a child to read during the summer could potentially lead to $1,000 toward his or her college savings. The Minnesota College Savings Plan launched the "Destination College Savings" Sweepstakes as part of the 2011 Library Summer Reading Program.

The sweepstakes, which runs through Aug. 12 will award 15 Minnesota parents $1,000 toward their child's future college education. The winner's library will also receive $500. Parents can enter to win by filling out an official Entry Card at any Lake Agassiz Regional Library location.

"This has been a great partnership in encouraging children to read and parents to save for their loved one's college education," said Renee Hill, plan manager for the Minnesota College Savings Plan. "During these tough economic times, we want to provide an incentive for parents to have a chance to win $1,000 as well as reward our libraries."

The Minnesota College Savings Plan is Minnesota's official Section 529 college savings plan. The plan is flexible and can be used at eligible colleges, universities and career schools in Minnesota and throughout the United States.
