Teen book discussion
All teens are welcome to attend a book discussion of The Giver by Lois Lowry at 3:45 p.m. in La Barista. Feel free to attend even if you haven't read the book. This is a One Book, One Community event and more information about this event may be found at fmareaonebook.org.
The NRA banquet begins with gun drawings at 5:30 p.m., followed by dinner at 7, at the Sandbar. Tickets are $35 per person. For more info, contact Russ Hackel at 841-2125.

Adult Spanish Club
On the 5th of each month, join the adult Spanish Club at El Loro to practice your conversation skills. Drinks are at 6:30 p.m., followed by dinner at 7.

The Lake Country Scenic Byway Association meeting is the first Friday of each month at 8:30 a.m. in Grace Community Church, Osage.

Taste of Lund
Lund Lutheran Church, Richwood Road, hosts the Taste of Lund beginning at 9 a.m. Some of the Scandinavian delights include sandbakkels, Swedish almond cake, kransekake, lefse, crepes, potato candy and more. Tickets to sample are 2 for $1 or 12 for $5.
Walk for Let's Go Fishing
The Detroit Lakes area Chapter of Let's Go Fishing hosts Walk for Let's Go Fishing at the Pavilion. Registration is at 9 a.m., followed by the walk at 10. Awards and chili will follow in the City Park.
The Harvest Hoopla is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Roosevelt Elementary School, DL. There will be games, prizes, raffle, food and fun. Everyone is welcome.
Beef roast dinner
Immanuel Lutheran Church, Audubon, hosts a beef roast dinner from 4:30 to 7 p.m. It is a free will offering.
Autumn hike in Tamarac
The North Country National Scenic Trail now treks through Tamarac Refuge. The Laurentian Lakes Chapter invites you to get a taste of the trail at 10 a.m. for a 3-mile hike. Special note: Wearing an article of blaze orange is recommended. Meet at the Chippewa Picnic Area located 3 miles past the visitor center on County Hwy 26. Shuttles will be provided.
Sunday, Oct. 7
The Knights of Columbus sponsors a pancake/French toast and sausage breakfast from 8 a.m.-12:30 p.m. in the Holy Rosary Parish Center.
Roast beef supper
Hegland Lutheran Church, rural Hawley, hosts its annual Roast Beef Supper from 4 to 7 p.m. Cost is $9 for adults, $4 for children 6-12, and children under 6 are free.
The 17th annual Oktoberfest is from noon to 8 p.m. in the Frazee Event Center. Admission is $10. Leon Olsen Band and Wee Willie will be playing music throughout the day, and German food and cash bar are available.
Hike for Hope
The 12th annual North Country Trail Hike for Hope begins at 1 p.m. at the trailhead on Steamboat Forest Road north of Thorpe Tower. The trailhead is 1.2 miles east of Thorpe Township Hall in Hubbard Country on Hwy 91. The 3.1-mile hike is to Forest Road Spur 1.
Forest fungi walk
Tamarac Wildlife Refuge hosts a Forest Fungi Walk at 2 p.m. Join USDA plant biologist Tom Gulya for a walk in the woods. Explore the maple basswood forest while in pursuit of fascinating fungi. Meet at the Old Indian Hiking Trail located on County Hwy 29 in the southern half of the refuge.
Paul Heisler and Russell Bunker perform in concert Oct. 14 at 3 p.m. in First Lutheran Church, DL, and Oct. 15 at 7 p.m. in Calvary Lutheran Church, Perham. Vocalists Kathryn Larson and Ashley Morben will also perform. A free-will offering will be taken to benefit piano and voice scholarships.
Pumpkins n Ponies
Saturdays and Sundays, Oct. 6-28, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Timberline Ranch will be having hayrides to a pumpkin patch, roasting hot dogs over an open fire, offering small trail rides, free petting farm and a few more surprises. The ranch is 5 minutes from DL on Hwy 34 east.
A coat give-away is Oct. 1-5 and 8-12 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Trinity Lutheran Church, DL. Anyone in need of winter coats, hats and mittens can pick them up at no charge. Items will be distributed on a first come, first serve basis in size from children to adult.
Hauge fall Bible conference
The Hauge fall Bible conference on "Neglected Truths" is Oct. 12-14 at Faith Lutheran Church, DL. Everyone is welcome.
