Classical, folk, and pop music influence the Vecchione/Erdahl Duo, Carrie Vecchione, oboe/English horn, Rolf Erdahl, double bass.

The duo will give a concert at the Cultural Center in New York Mills on Friday, Nov. 22 at 7:30 p.m.

They first performed together in 1999 premiering Timothy Goplerud’s tango for English horn and bass, “It Takes Two…” for the National Association of College Wind and Percussion Instructor’s Conference.

Called “pioneers” by Minnesota Public Radio, the Vecchione/Erdahl Duo specializes in chamber music of a different color.  They have effectively created a new repertoire of oboe/bass duos they perform across the country.

Minnesota Public Radio recently named the duo as MPR Artists in Residence for the 2013-14 season. Other recognition includes being voted “Audience Favorite Act” at Sample Night Live in St. Paul, and grants from the Minnesota State Arts Board, Metropolitan Regional Arts Council, The American Composers Forum, and the Jerome Composers Commissioning Program Grant that resulted in Askelad.

Admission is $10 advance reservation or $12 the night of the concert. Student admission is always just $5. For more information, please call 218-385-3339, or visit
