Bookmobile schedule

Viking Library System's bookmobile stops at Dent School from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m., Dent Bank from 11 to 11:30, Richville Post Office from 11:45 to noon, and Vergas Municipal Building from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.

Community Band

The Lakes Area Community Concert Band rehearses from 7-8:30 p.m. in the Detroit Lakes Senior High band room. Use the southwest doors. Doors open by 6:30 p.m. Gene Gaffney will direct. Anyone interested in playing with the band is welcome. Openings in all sections, especially percussion. If you have any questions, contact Rick Olson at 218-847-4281 or, or just come to a rehearsal.

Gordon Court performs

Gordon Court, award-winning vocalist, performs from noon to 3 p.m. in Sunflower Hill Coffee shop in conjunction with the Sunflower Hill Women's Showcase.

Cabin fever supper

Grace Lutheran Church hosts a cabin fever supper from 4 to 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $7 for adults, $3.50 for kids 4-10 and under 3 are free. There will be homemade donuts for sale too.

Numb your Buns

Town hall meeting

Sen. Keith Langseth and Rep. Paul Marquart hold a town meeting to hear from area residents on state issues. The meeting will be from 5 to 6 p.m. in the Detroit Lakes City Hall.

Valentine's banquet

Lake Eunice Evangelical Free Church hosts a Valentine's banquet and concert with Dan and Merilee Ottoson. Dinner is at 6 p.m., followed by the concert at 7. To RSVP, call 439-3255.

Summer soccer sign-up

Sign-up for summer soccer is from 4 to 6 p.m. in the Detroit Lakes High School commons area. There will be an early bird special through Feb. 21. The DL American Legion Auxiliary serves breakfast from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Everyone is welcome to build your own omelet, French toast or pancakes.

The American Legion Junior Auxiliary meets at noon in the Legion.

Freedom's Call

Faith Lutheran Church, DL, hosts Freedom's Call from Bemidji in concert at 7 p.m. It is a free-will offering.

Sweet spaghetti dinner

DL First Lutheran Church youth serve a spaghetti dinner from 4 to 8 p.m. in the First Lutheran Ristorante (dining room). Cost is $7 per adult, $3 for children 12 and under, and kids 3 and under are free. Maximum charge for one family is $20. Proceeds benefit the youth summer 2008 mission trip to Puerto Rico.

Book Lovers tea

A Book Lovers Tea is at 2 p.m. in the DL Library. This is a joint program for the Detroit Lakes Library Club and the winter reading program. Come and enjoy tea, scones and other treats. Mary Haney, Bernie Rodseth, and Hazel Harvego are hostesses.

Sweetening the Heart

The DL Christian Women's Club hosts Sweetening the Heart from noon to 1:30 p.m. in Holiday Inn, DL. Cost is $8. Reservations should be made by Feb. 11 to Norma at 846-1977 or Ruth at 847-5507.

Blood screening

St. Mary's Regional Health Center conducts a blood screening for the general public on Feb. 14 from 7-8:30 a.m. in the Frazee Elementary School. Results of 10+ tests are mailed to you within two days. The fee is $35, and pre-paid registration by today is required by calling Frazee Community Ed. at 334-2525. Participants should bring a self-addressed, stamped business size envelope and should not eat for 8 hours preceding the blood test. The Frazee Lions will be conducting a free glaucoma and field of vision screening at the same time and location.

Beading classes

Wendy with Ojibwe Custom Beadwork holds beading classes Wednesdays in February at the Country Charm store at Washington Square Mall, DL. The Spiral Stitch will be taught Feb. 13 and 27. Classes are from 3-5 p.m. and the cost is $15 per stitch. Beading supplies (seed beads, thread, needles, etc.) can be purchased at Country Charm. Lakes Figure Skating

Lakes Figure Skating is Sundays at 5 p.m. for teaching of all ages, beginners to advanced. Come early to register for second session. For more info, call Deb at 841-7843.

Preschool screening

Is your child between the ages of 3-5 and not been screened? State guidelines make preschool screening mandatory before entrance into kindergarten. The Frazee-Vergas School District will provide a preschool screening free of charge for students who are the ages of 3 by Feb. 1 through the age of 5 by Sept. 1. The screening will cover health history, immunization assessment, vision and hearing screening, and assessment of height and weight. Please call Judi at 334-2525 to schedule an appointment. Screening is Feb. 6 from 8 to 11 a.m. in Bethlehem Lutheran Church for Innovis (Dakota) Health clients, and Feb. 7 from 8 a.m. to noon for MeritCare clients.

CHIP seminar

The Coronary Health Im-provement Project (CHIP) is designed to help individuals learn how to reserve or normalize heart disease, high blood pressure, adult onset diabetes, high cholesterol and obesity in just 30 days. The seminar begins Monday, Feb. 11 and pre-registration is required. For more information, call 218- 847-3548.

Knitting, crochet classes

Multiple classes in knitting and crochet techniques are available by registration in Park Rapids. Classes will cover such topics as Tips and Tricks, Finishing Techniques, Cables, Knitting with Multiple Colors, Continental Knitting, Pattern Reading, and Problem Solving are offered.
