Madrigal dinners set for Dec. 14, 17 in Holmes
Amid roving minstrels, beggars, a brass choir, a recorder ensemble and cries of "Wassail! Wassail!" the Detroit Lakes High School Choirs will present a Renaissance Madrigal Dinner on Monday, Dec. 14 and Thursday, Dec. 17 at the Historic Holmes Theater Ballroom in Detroit Lakes.
Plans are in full swing to recreate all the pomp and charm of Renaissance England, according to director Kathryn Larson.
Beggars and singers will mingle amongst guests, offering their yuletide greetings in word and song. Members of the Laker Singers will be featured as the Royal Court, while other choir members will serve as minstrels, waiters, beggars, dancers and other performers.
Music teachers of the district will perform in a recorder ensemble, and a jovial court jester will entertain the audience.
Announced by a brass fanfare, guests will be served a five-course meal. Seating for the event begins at 6:15 p.m., with the Royal Processional starting at 7 p.m. Seating for the Monday dinner is still available, while only a few tickets for the Thursday dinner are left, Larson said.
Reserved tickets are $28 apiece, and can be purchased in advance from the Holmes Theater Box Office at 826 Summit Ave., Detroit Lakes, or by calling 844-SHOW.
