Krauka sets several area concerts

THE VIKING BAND KRAUKA will be making several appearances in the area over the next two weeks, starting with a Friday, Sept. 24 concert in the New York Mills Regional Cultural Center. The four-person group also performed at the Center in 2009 (pictured).

The band Krauka, whose members hail from Iceland and Denmark, will perform ancient music of the Vikings at New York Mills on Friday, Sept. 24 at 7:30 p.m. in the New York Mills Regional Cultural Center.

The band then returns to Fargo-Moorhead for back-to-back concerts on Thursday, Sept. 30 at Hopperstad Stave Church, on the grounds of the Hjemkomst Center in Moorhead, and Friday, Oct. 1 at The Aquarium in Fargo.

Krauka features four men from Denmark and Iceland who take original Viking sources like instruments, tonalities, and lyrics straight from the myths and the eddas, and make amazing world roots music that is mysterious, contemporary, and rocking.

Admission for the New York Mills concert is $12 advance sale and $15 the evening of the concert. A pre-concert Viking dinner will held be at the Eagles Cafe in New York Mills, across the street from the Center, at 5:30 p.m. Call 218-385-3339 for tickets. Reservations for the dinner are also recommended.

The Sept. 30 show at Hopperstad Stave features an all-acoustic performance, while the Oct. 1 show at The Aquarium will include "every Viking rock song the guys have written -- and then some. Save your ticket stub from the Moorhead concert and receive $1 off from your ticket to the Aquarium show.

The group will also be in Fertile, Minn., on Oct. 2-3.

Krauka's appearances in the Fargo-Moorhead area are being sponsored by the Nordic Arts Alliance.
