BSU sets concerts this weekend

The Bemidji State University Music Department is planning a great series of concerts this weekend.

First up is the BSU Faculty Trio on Friday, March 21 at 7:30 p.m. in the Thompson Recital Hall at BSU.

Pianist Dr. Stephen Carlson, associate professor of music; cellist Dr. Patrick Riley, professor emeritus of music; and violin player Melanie Hanson will perform Beethoven’s D Major “Ghost” Trio, and Brahms’ Piano Trio in B Major, Op. 8. Admission is free.

Tracy Stein, a music education major from Fergus Falls, will present her junior recital featuring 20th-century works for flute on Saturday, March 22.

The program will begin at 3 pm in the Thompson Recital Hall. Admission is free.

On Sunday, March 23, Charles Lazarus, a trumpeter with the Minnesota Orchestra, will bring his jazz combo to Bemidji for a 3 p.m. concert in the Thompson Recital Hall.

Lazarus has been touring with his jazz combo as a side project from his work with the orchestra.

Tickets for the concert, “A Night in the Tropics,” are $10 for adults and $5 for students. BSU and NTC students are admitted free with a valid ID.

Lazarus will also give a free clinic Sunday at 7:30 p.m. in the Thompson Recital Hall. All are welcome to attend the clinic free of charge.

Two previously scheduled events set to take place this week have been canceled: A Thursday, March 20 concert by flutist Julie Johnson, and a Saturday, March 22 concert by violinist Eric Olson.
