Born and raised in Wilmington, N.C., Charlie Daniels began his music career playing the fiddle and the guitar.

With the influence of gospel, bluegrass, country and rhythm and blues, Daniels developed his own original musical style.

After trying his hand in a hometown rock band, he packed his bags for Nashville in search of something bigger.

There, he became one of the area’s most popular fiddlers and was invited to record albums with Bob Dylan and Ringo Starr.

The talented and showy Daniels formed The Charlie Daniels Band in 1970 and released three studio albums before their 1974 hit album, “Fire on the Mountain,” went platinum.

The band maintained its southern rock style until the late ‘70s when they chose to pursue a more country flair.

The decision paid off when the band released its first major hit in 1979, “The Devil Went Down to Georgia.”

The song reached number three on the pop charts and was awarded the Country Music Association’s Single of the Year, elevating its accompanying album, “Million Mile Reflections,” to multi-platinum status.

The band has also received two Grammy Awards — Best Performance by a Group or Duo in 1979 and Best Southern Gospel, Country Gospel, or Bluegrass Album in 1996 — and has been nominated for five additional Grammy Awards.

Daniels was inducted into the Grand Ole Opry on January 24, 2008, and the Musicians Hall of Fame and Museum in 2009.

The Charlie Daniels Band will perform many of their hits, as well as songs from their latest album, during their show at Shooting Star Casino.

“Off the Grid — Doin’ It Dylan” is the first studio release from the band since 2007 and pays homage to Bob Dylan and many of Dylan’s greatest works.
