Genealogical Society

Heart O'Lakes Genealogical Society meets the second Thursday of the month at 6:30 p.m. in the Becker County Museum. Anyone who is interested in researching their family history is invited to attend. North Country Trail hike

North Country Trail resort hike meets at 10 a.m. at the Lake Erin Picnic Grounds, located on the east side of HWY 371, 2.6 miles south of the "Y." This hike is a 2.2-mile hike in the Chippewa National Forest from Lake Erin east to the Woodtick Trail.

PEO Chapter FG

P.E.O. Chapter FG meets at 7 p.m. in the home of Paulette Dew, with Jane Miller assisting. The program will be presented by Paulette Dew. Dessert will be served.

LP Garden Club

The Lake Park Garden Club tours the NDSU experimental gardens on the Fargo campus. Meet at the St. Francis Catholic Church parking lot to car pool, leaving at 9 a.m.

Color Guard breakfast

The Lake Region Veterans Color Guard fundraiser breakfast is from 8 a.m. to noon in the DL American Legion. A $6.50 donation is gratefully accepted.

Shoreham Chapel

The Shoreham Chapel, Lake Melissa, service is at 10:45 a.m., followed by coffee and fellowship. Special music is by Celes Mickelson, vocalist. Everyone is welcome.

Tuesdays in the Park

Habitat for Humanity provides a picnic in the DL City Park from 6 to 7 p.m. each Tuesday in July and August. Come and have hamburgers, brats and hotdogs along with beans, potato salad and beverage. Free will offering benefits Habitat for Humanity and the Holmes Community Theater. A concert follows at 7 p.m. featuring Doc & the Scrubs in the Pavilion. Bring your lawn chairs for the concert.

North Country Trail hike

North Country Trail resort hike meets at 10 a.m. at the NCT kosk, HWY 4 & Halvrerson Trail, 2.5 miles south of Lake George. A 2.5-mile hike within Hubbard County land passes through mixed forest and enters a magnificent spruce and balsam forest as it winds down into the historic Schoolcraft river valley. The valley features a massive wetland teaming with wildlife.


Warehouse rummage sale

A warehouse rummage sale, benefiting The Refuge and Compassion House, is in the warehouse across 8th Street from The Refuge on July 12-13 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Firearms safety class

A firearms safety class is July 15-21 in the Wolf Lake Lions Hall. The class is for anyone at least 11 years old. Registration is required by calling Lisa at 218-346-5760.

Trinity Church VBS

Trinity Lutheran Church and Pathways Outdoor Ministries of Northwest Minnesota offer Vacation Bible School Day Camp to area youth entering kindergarten-6th grade. It is July 30-Aug. 2 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and the theme is "Mirror Image." Call Laurie at 847-7211 by July 23 to reserve a spot.

Bearclaw Muzzleloaders


The Bearclaw Muzzleloaders of Northern Minnesota Annual Rendezvous is July 20-21 at the Height of Land Sportsmans Club, east of Detroit Lakes on Hwy 34, 15 miles. Follow the signs. Reenactment of pre-1840, there will be competitions held throughout the day. Public is welcome. It is Saturday from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. and Sunday from 9 a.m.-noon.
