A few tips from the theater: When thinking about auditioning, please do not type yourself out and do not role type against the movie.
Characters include Truvy, a 40-year-old owner of a small town beauty shop; Annelle, a very shy 20-year-old hair-dresser; Clairee, the 60-year-old wealthy widow of the former mayor of Chinquapin; Shelby, a diabetic young lady, roughly 25 years old, somewhat rebellious; M’Lynn, Shelby’s 50-year-old mother, who is over-protective at times and finds the need to have a firm grasp on the world at all times; Ouiser (pronounced Weezer), who is the same age as Clairee, wealthy and lovably miserable.
Though ‘Steel Magnolias’ was originally set in the South, the location for this production will be moved to the Minnesota Northwoods.
Minnesota Folklore Theater is celebrating its eighth summer season. All ages are welcome, and all are welcome to get involved. Call 218-547-4044 for more information.
