50-year marriage focus of Long Lake Theater’s musical ‘I Do! I Do!’
The theater production “I Do! I Do!” opens today (Wednesday) and runs through Saturday, Aug. 27 at Long Lake Theater in Hubbard.
The two-person cast of Cory Johnson (Michael) and Julia Amundson (Agnes) tells the story of marriage spanning 50 years, from wedding day to the day the couple moves out of their house.
Johnson and Amundson describe the production as a classic show from the golden age of musical theater. It’s a story that has been around a long time, a reminder of the Fred Astaire era featuring different styles of dance like ballroom, waltz and foxtrot.
Johnson, a Henning native, is also the show’s director and says this is a story that relates to people of all different stages of life. It’s set in the years 1898 to 1948.
Amundson says the story does a great job illustrating the ups and downs of any relationship.
There will be 16 performances in August; Wednesdays at 3 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
