‘Play It Again, Sam’ at Holmes Theatre

Join Detroit Lakes’ own community theater company, Summit Productions, this Thursday and Friday, March 7-8 as they present two performances of Woody Allen’s “Play It Again, Sam” at the Historic Holmes Theatre.

Both nights the performance is at 7:30 p.m. This is part of the theater’s BTD Community Connections Series.

“Play It Again, Sam” is directed by Caitlin Pawlowski and produced by special arrangement with Samuel French, Inc., New York City.

Allan Felix, film critic and recently deserted husband, lives in a drab and lonely apartment and has this thing about Humphrey Bogart.  Felix is a professional write of commentary for Film Quarterly magazine and is a movie geek… If only he had some of Bogart’s technique.  Bookish and insecure with women, Allan’s hero Bogey comes to the rescue, with a fantastic bevy of beauties played out in hilarious fantasy sequences.  Fixed up by friends (Dick and Linda) with gorgeous women, he’s so awkward that even Bogey’s patience is tried.

Allan mostly resembles a disheveled, friendly dog and this is what ultimately charms his best friend’s wife, Linda.  It’s a tough life, making it in the world of beautiful people, but if you can’t be a hero it helps to have one…

The show was first produced on Broadway in 1969, and has remained popular ever since.

The cast is made up of all local actors. Tickets are $15 for adults and $7.50 for students, and can be purchased online at, by calling 218-844-7469, or by visiting our Box Office at 806 Summit Ave., Detroit Lakes. This show is underwritten by Essentia Health.
