Mercedes H. Erickson, 88, of Detroit Lakes, died Friday, September 4, 2009 at Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes. Funeral services for Mercedes are set for 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 14 at the Audubon Chapel in Audubon, with the Rev. Duane Lahlum officiating. There will be visitation for one hour prior to services at the church. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Moorhead.

Mercedes H. Erickson, 88, of Detroit Lakes, died Friday, September 4, 2009 at Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes.

Mercedes Hope Helmbrecht was born to Acie Charles and Selma Ovidia (Braaten) Helmbrecht on June 20, 1921 in Henning, Minn.m where she grew up and attended school. She was married to Gerald Munson; they made their home in the state of Washington before returning to the Moorhead area.

Mercedes married Wesley Erickson on July 2, 1961 in Dilworth, Minn. In 1963, they moved to Brady, Mont., and resided there until 1993, when they made their retirement home in Audubon. Wesley died on Feb. 21, 2001.

Surviving Mercedes are her son, LeRoy (Connie) Munson of Blaine, Minn.; two grandchildren; two great grandchildren; two step-great grandchildren; two sisters, Darlene Johnson and Doreen Hagen; three brothers, Acie “Swede” Helmbrecht, Jr., Gary Helmbrecht and William Helmbrecht; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Selma and Acie Helmbrecht; her husband, Wesley Erickson; children, Phyllis Munson, Darwin Munson, Bradley Munson, Jeanette Munson, Lois Munson and Mary Beth Munson; stepdaughter, Sharon Vikesland; sisters, Faye Kruse, Shirley Goodsell, and Joan Helmbrecht; and brothers, Marlyn, Kenneth, David, Larry and Robert Helmbrecht.

Funeral services for Mercedes are set for 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 14 at the Audubon Chapel in Audubon, with the Rev. Duane Lahlum officiating. There will be visitation for one hour prior to services at the church.

Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Moorhead.
