Margorie DuChene

Former Callaway resident Margorie M. DuChene, 81, of Ada, Minn., died Monday, September 7, 2009, at Bridges Care Community in Ada. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 11 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Ada, with a 7 p.m. prayer service. Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 12 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Ada. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, Detroit Lakes.

Former Callaway resident Margorie M. DuChene, 81, of Ada, Minn., died Monday, September 7, 2009, at Bridges Care Community in Ada.

Margorie Mae Porter was born the daughter of Arthur Porter and Mabel (Smith) Porter on Jan. 4, 1928, in Devils Lake, N.D., where Margorie grew up and graduated from Devils Lake High School in 1946. While in her school years, Margorie worked at the Ben Franklin Store in Devils Lake.

On October 25, 1948, Margorie married John Herbert DuChene of Callaway at the Assumption Catholic Church in Callaway. Margorie and John began their family in rural Callaway, raising their three children on their farm. In 1954, they moved to Ada, where Margorie did the bookkeeping for John’s business, “Art’s Radiator Shop”. They also had three more children.

Margorie was a busy homemaker and seamstress. She was also involved for many years with the VFW Auxiliary, was a Cub Scout Den Mother and was a member of the Royal Neighbors of America. Margorie also worked at Don’s Super Value grocery store.

Over the years, Margorie enjoyed gardening, crocheting, needle work, sewing, dancing, playing cards, and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Margorie is survived by three sons, John (Laura) DuChene and Michael DuChene, both of Ada, and Paul (Ruth) DuChene of Moorhead; three daughters, Kathleen (Roy) Towns of Rome, Ga., Linda (Roy) Arneson of West Fargo and Julie (Jim) Austinson of Ada; 19 grandchildren; and 13 great grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, John; one grandson; one step-grandson; one brother; and one sister.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 11 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Ada, with a 7 p.m. prayer service.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 12 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Ada.

Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, Detroit Lakes. Arrangements are being provided by the Fredrikson Funeral Home in Ada.
