Ray Franklund

Ray E. Franklund, 69, of Detroit Lakes, died Saturday, October 17, 2009 at Innovis Health in Fargo. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 21, with a 6:30 p.m. prayer service, at West-Kjos Funeral Home, Detroit Lakes. Funeral services are set for 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 22, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Detroit Lakes, with interment at 3 p.m. in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Jamestown, N.D.

Ray E. Franklund, 69, of Detroit Lakes, died Saturday, October 17, 2009 at Innovis Health in Fargo.

Ray was born the son of Victor and Ida (Carlson) Franklund on January 19, 1940 in Wilton, N.D. He was raised and educated in Wilton, graduating from Wilton High School in 1959.

Ray was united in marriage to Jeanette Carlson on July 16, 1960 in Washburn, N.D. He was the manager of grain elevators in several communities in North Dakota and Minnesota, including Falkirk, Makoti, Rolla and Plummer, Minn., Regan, Lisbon and Medina, N.D. He resided in Jamestown, N.D., until moving to Detroit Lakes in November 2008.

Ray enjoyed woodworking, refinishing furniture, playing cribbage, and fishing with his children and grandchildren.

Surviving Ray are his children, Clifton (Carrie) Franklund of Big Rapids, Mich., LaRae (Joel) Nelson of Detroit Lakes and Duane (Kathy) Franklund of Burnsville, Minn.; four grandchildren, LaRissa and Christopher Nelson, Jennifer and Emily Franklund; two step-grandchildren, Stephanie and Sean Deneen; two sisters, Irene (Ted) Thorson of Wing, N.D.; and Avis Hoffart of Audubon; two brothers, Ulane (Berniece) Franklund of Wilton, N.D., and Paul (Edna) Franklund of Farmers Branch, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceding Ray in death were his parents; wife, Jeanette (2004); two brothers, Victor and Leonard; one sister, Grace Baranyk; and daughter-in-law, Rachel Franklund.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 21, with a 6:30 p.m. prayer service, at West-Kjos Funeral Home, Detroit Lakes.

Funeral services are set for 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 22, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Detroit Lakes, with interment at 3 p.m. in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Jamestown, N.D.
