NIna Johnson

Nina C. Johnson, 81, of Detroit Lakes, died Monday, November 30, 2009 at Sunnyside Care Center in Lake Park. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, December 2 at West-Kjos Funeral Home, Detroit Lakes. Funeral services are set for 2 p.m. Thursday, December 3, 2009 at at First Lutheran Church, Detroit Lakes, with interment in Oak Grove Cemetery, Detroit Lakes.

Nina C. Johnson, 81, of Detroit Lakes, died Monday, November 30, 2009 at Sunnyside Care Center in Lake Park.

Nina was born the daughter of Nickoloi and Hilda (Hansen) Nelson on January 25, 1928 in rural Toad Lake Township, Becker County, Minnesota. She attended country school in the Toad Lake Township at District No. 73. Nina was united in marriage to Duane O. Johnson on July 3, 1947 at First Lutheran Church, Detroit Lakes. They made their home in the Detroit Lakes area, on Lake Sallie, and Nina worked as a cook in the District 22 lunch program for many years.

During her retirement years, Nina enjoyed traveling, fishing, gardening, embroidering and especially enjoyed walking through the woods near her home.

Surviving Nina are her husband of 62 years, Duane O. Johnson of Detroit Lakes; four children, Duane (Tammie) Johnson Jr. of Lengby, Minn., Charlotte (William) Stoltzman of Richmond, Minn., Milo (Dianne) Johnson of New York Mills, and Cindy (Charles Brown) Dibley of Audubon; nine grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; one brother, Nick (Virginia) Nelson of Sioux City, Iowa; one sister, Sigrid Wacker of Perham; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceding Nina in death were her parents, one brother and eight sisters.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, December 2 at West-Kjos Funeral Home, Detroit Lakes.

Funeral services are set for 2 p.m. Thursday, December 3, 2009 at at First Lutheran Church, Detroit Lakes, with interment in Oak Grove Cemetery, Detroit Lakes.
