electrifying event: Truck hits live power wire
Detroit Lakes public utility workers Sam Jones and Don Goetz cut a power wire that was pulled down by a delivery truck near the intersection of Washington Avenue and Main Street in Detroit Lakes Wednesday afternoon. The line was observed hanging lower than normal, and Goetz said the heat of the summer sometimes causes the power lines to sag. The incident caused a series of loud popping noises like gunfire, and flames could briefly be seen under the truck before the driver, Thomas Anthony Hill, 36, of West Fargo, leaped from the cab to safety. The truck is registered to Johnson Brothers Liquor Co. of St. Paul.
