DL receives $5,000 Safe Routes to School grant
The Minnesota Department of Transportation announced the recipients of $768,000 in federal funding for Safe Routes to School. The grants will support Safe Routes to School plans at 70 schools in 35 communities and implementation grants at 22 schools in nine communities. Detroit Lakes is one of those communities receiving funds for sidewalks.May 16, 2012
City council approves The Refuge’s request for Hope Fest 2012 gathering 
The Refuge has been cleared to hold Hope Fest 2012 on June 21-24. The Detroit Lakes City Council approved a request by The Refuge to host a gathering on its property along Tower Road. The land has been donated to The Refuge for a future women’s shelter.

City and Zorbaz reach agreement: unauthorized deck must go 
The city of Detroit Lakes and Zorbaz owner Tom Hanson have come to an agreement: the unauthorized deck will come out.
In a special meeting last week, the Detroit Lakes City Council passed a motion to accept an agreement signed by Hanson — who was represented by attorney Patrick Kenney — that would require him to remove the deck that sits to the northwest of the building.

DL man badly hurt in California crash 
A Detroit Lakes truck driver is in intensive care in California after suffering from a serious stroke following an accident last month.
According to family, 61-year-old Jerry Pesicka was driving his big rig on Interstate 5 in Orange County, Calif., on Feb. 6, when he blacked out and ended up on an off-ramp.
