The fist-pumping chant that filled the gymnasium at Lake Park-Audubon Elementary School Monday afternoon was a clear sign of the overwhelming enthusiasm of students, staff, administration and parents at the formal dedication of their new and renovated school facilities.

Rodewald goes back to school for GED: Never too old to learn
A couple years ago, Kermit Rodewald was reading an article from the Minnesota Reading Corps about a need for people to read to students in the Lake Park-Audubon Elementary School. He wanted to help.
He contacted the appropriate people and found that he needed a high school diploma or GED in order to qualify, neither of which he had. So, he decided it was time to get his GED.

Work finishing up on LP-A grade school: Ready for the students
Though the new parking lot and a few other finishing touches may not be completed in time for classes to start, and there are still a few other things to be completed, the newly renovated and expanded Lake Park-Audubon Elementary School will be inspected and “ready for occupancy” on the first day of school Sept. 6, according to Superintendent Dale Hogie.

Thanks to lemonade stand : Girls raise money for Audubon park
Three Audubon girls are getting a lesson in philanthropy this summer.
Twelve-year-old Alexa Carlson, 13-year-old Taylor Carlson and 6-year-old Hannah Maves donated four hours of their precious summer vacation time on Friday to work a lemonade stand to benefit their hometown.
“The money we make will go to help fix the old, broken picnic tables at the park,” said Alexa.

Firefighters auxiliary helps bring the laughter back to Audubon park
When members of the Audubon Fire Department women’s auxiliary group want something, they go after it until it’s gotten.
In 2000, when Jen Savig was on the Audubon City Council, she started raising money, to pair with a Department of Natural Resources grant, to build new playground equipment for the city park. Needless to say, the grant fell through, as did the new playground equipment.

LP-A School Board gives superintendent high marks
It’s been a good year for the communities of Lake Park and Audubon.
The bond referendum for construction of the new high school and renovated elementary facilities was approved. Enrollment is up. Construction on the elementary school renovation and expansion is on schedule, and bids for the new high school came in slightly better than expected.
