Regional businesses lose sales tax permit 
The Minnesota Department of Revenue recently revoked the sales tax permit of Ottertail Cedar Log Furniture Inc., for failing to file and pay sales tax to the state. According to the department, the business allegedly owes the state more than $57,000.
The department claims the furniture business, located at 201 State Highway 108 in Dent, failed to file and pay sales tax for periods between March and September 2011.

Unemployment rate drops to 5.6 percent 
The Minnesota unemployment rate fell 0.1 percent in January to a seasonally adjusted 5.6 percent, according to figures released today by the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development.
The state remained well below the U.S. unemployment rate of 8.3 percent.
