More than one million items a year are borrowed from Lake Agassiz Regional Library (LARL). Most are returned on time. The Library has always charged fines for materials not returned.

Library exchanges late fees for food 
“The Three Faces of Eve” by Corbett Thigpen was first published in 1957. A copy of Thigpen’s classic book was checked out from the Moorhead Library with a date due stamp of Sept. 12, 1983.

It’s apple harvest time at the Detroit Lakes Library 
We’ve all heard the old proverb “an apple a day keeps the doctor away,” and recent research continues to uphold the truth of that adage.
According to an article by Jeanelle Boyer and Rui Hai Liu, who are affiliated with the Department of Food Science and Institute of Comparative and Environmental Toxicology at Cornell University, those in the study who consumed low amounts of fruits and vegetables were twice as likely to have cancer compared to those who ate high amounts of fruits and vegetables.

Tips and tricks for summer sewing 
Most of us think of sewing and/or quilting as more of a winter activity, but did you know the first sewing machine was patented on July 17, 1790? The early sewing machines are unrecognizable when compared to their modern counterparts… this is extremely obvious when perusing Carter Bays’ book The Encyclopedia of Early American & Antique Sewing Machines, available at your library. No matter what model you have, the only thing that matters is that it is capable of sewing a decent stitch!
