Beth Horslev Gilbert is the new community outreach director for the Historic Holmes Theatre in Detroit Lakes. A native of the Chicago area, she spent many years in the Atlanta, Ga., area with husband Phil Gilbert (son of longtime lakes area residents Orlo and Ellen Gilbert) and daughters Elena and Ava before moving to Detroit Lakes in 2014. Senior companion Les Heimark helps rural Detroit Lakes resident June Pearson with her shopping once a week and takes her to her various appointments around town, when they’re not sitting down over coffee and visiting about the friends and family they have in common. Former Pelican River Watershed District Administrator Dick Hecock, who has also served as president of the Lake Detroiters Association, Pickerel Lake Association and Becker County Coalition of Lake Associations (COLA), was recently honored by the Lake Detroiters with their prestigious “Friend of the Lakes” Award.
