Research a new dog at the library
Whether you're looking for a mutt for your family, like the Obamas, or an expensive purebred, you need to know what's best for your situation!
"This is a major issue," Obama deadpanned at his first news conference as president-elect in November, noting that two factors had to be reconciled: the desires for a hypoallergenic pet and for a shelter dog. (Los Angeles Times)
Americans have been following this story; some reluctantly... wondering why this is of any importance, while others are relieved to have some news from the lighter side!
According to the Feb. 25 edition of the L.A. Times, the Obamas have their search down to two breeds, Portuguese water dog and a Labradoodle. Well, if you're lucky enough to be in the same boat as the President of the United States --researching a new pet -- the library has all kinds of information for you! Below you will find three of our newest titles on the subject:
- Essential Dog; The Ultimate Guide to Owning a Happy and Healthy Pet by Caroline Davis. Comprehensive, as well as quick and easy to grasp, Essential Dog offers basic, valuable information and expert guidance on: choosing a dog, canine behavior, caring for a dog, training your dog, and health care.

What should you do if you need to leave your dog alone at home while everyone is at work? Are you providing him with the exercise he needs? How can you make sure your children and dog get along well? How do events in the human family such as birth, marriage, or divorce affect the family dog? All of these questions and many more are answered by bestselling author Cesar Millan in his new book.
