The Detroit Lakes Noon Rotary Club’s 24th annual blood screening at Essentia Health-St. Mary’s generated $21,051 for local scholarships.

Almost 2,100 people took part in the blood screenings, which were offered last fall at a special discounted price. St. Mary’s teams up with the Rotary Club each year for this fundraiser.

St. Mary’s President Peter Jacobson presented the check to Rotary Club leaders during the group’s Jan. 9 meeting.

The blood screenings were held in September. Rotary volunteers assisted.

In a change from previous years, those seeking the blood tests could sign a release form and have their lab results entered into their electronic medical records.

When he talked to the Rotary Club, Jacobson discussed the importance of yearly blood screenings and how they can help improve the community’s health.
