Caregivers’ spring retreat

Over 40 area caregivers were treated to a day of inspiration, self-care, and lunch on March 20, at the Detroit Lakes Holiday Inn.

The retreat was provided by the Becker County Caregiver Support Team which plans events two times per year to support and educate primary caregivers.

The team is made up of professionals and volunteers from Essentia Health/St Mary’s, Hospice of the Red River Valley, Lutheran Social Services, Mahube-Otwa Community Action Partnership, Home Instead Senior Care, White Earth Community Health, and Land of the Dancing Sky Area Agency on Aging.

The day included caramel rolls and lunch; inspiration from Tim Cook of Essentia Health/St Mary’s Pastoral Department; relaxation and massage techniques with RoxAnn Lindquist – certified massage therapist; laughter yoga with Janet Severson of Home Instead Senior Care and certified laughter yoga instructor; and gentle yoga by Ann Pate – certified yoga instructor.

The funding to support the Caregiver Retreats is provided by the United Way of Becker County along with donations from businesses, churches, and individuals.
